Welcome to the Hanlan site, a site dedicated to the Hanlan surname. Regular visitors to the site can scroll to the bottom of this page or check the news page for all the latest. My name is Andrew Hanlan and I am from Scotland. In 2002 I began to research my family tree and had a fair amount of success but I came up against hurdle after hurdle. My main problem was I couldn't afford to pay a lot of money to expensive genealogy websites for very little return and there weren't many free sites out there with a lot of Hanlan information. After I had exhausted the research I could I thought of creating this site to help other Hanlan's who are looking to search there tree's. The Hanlan surname is not that common around the world but since I created the Hanlan Site it has amazed me how we Hanlan's span the globe. There has been Hanlan's from America, Canada, Africa, Australia, China and many more places around the world who have either contacted myself or taken part in the Hanlan Site features such as the forum, guestbook and name list. The history of where we Hanlan's came from is very hard to find but from what I have learned, the Hanlan surname is an offshoot from O'Hanlon. O'Hanlon was a an ancient family from Ireland and through reasons unknown descendants of the O'Hanlon's changed they're surnames slightly at different points in History. Other Offshoots of the O'Hanlon surname are Hanlon and O'Hanlan. There are many features on the site to participate in such as the forum where we Hanlan's can discuss anything we choose with other Hanlan's. There is also the chat room to meet other Hanlan's online. No site visitor should leave the website without signing the guestbook or making they're mark on the guest map. The news page will hold all the latest news about the website or us Hanlan's around the globe. The stories and pics page is there for you to post your stories and pictures, please email me your stories or photographs to have them put onto the stories & pics page. Check out the links page for links to other sites which may be of interest to you, you could also add a link of your own to the links page. The most important part of the Hanlan Site is the name list, a place for all of us to make our own personal mark on the Hanlan site. The name list's intention is to become a database of Hanlan's past and present, to add a name to the list then use the name form. Also check out the bottom of this page for other site extra's such as how to signing up for the newsletter or taking part in surveys and website online polls. Most importantly is that you enjoy the Hanlan site and make full use of it. The Hanlan website was created and is maintained for you so use it! Latest Website visitors who have been here before may have noticed I have totally redesigned the website. Unfortunately due to other commitments I wasn't able to keep the site up to date. However I have decided to a lot more time to The Hanlan Site. The new design was lot of hard work but I think it is now more pleasing on the eye and a lot easier to navigate. Anyone who used the name form to send names for the name list but didn't see them appear on the name list, please could you use the form again to send them and I will add them to the name list. After moving the site back to its original address (http://hanlansite.tripod.com) I had problems with receiving emails, this is now fixed. Apologies for the past problems with the site and hope you like the new look. I have recently started using another hosting company on a trial basis. The domain name is www.hanlan.org. Since this is a trial I would not replace this web address with the tripod one until I find out if this hosting company is any good. The email address hanlansite@yahoo.co.uk still remains the same.
